Looking back at the TTWP Heart and Soul Social Evening of May 2nd
by Maggie Tidball
Way back in 2009 I helped to organise TTWP’s first Autumn Fayre which was fun, profitable (as we made quite a bit of money to swell our funds), but jolly hard work. Not deterred I decided I would help to follow it with a 2nd fair. Again it attracted a good crowd, was interesting with a good variety of stalls, things to sell and good food to eat and buy.
So I took a back seat and had an idea that someone else would jump in to continue to progress this “show case ” for TTWP. It didn’t happen, folk are very busy and it could happen again when the time is right.
The Heart and Soul group also had this ebbing of energy so I felt this urge to help the Phoenix rise and the H and S now has been well established.
The last few meetings we have addressed communication and maintenance and come to the conclusion that social gatherings to share whatever needs to be shared at any given moment were necessary to maintain the contact/communication within the individual groups.
We initiated this “food to share” evening so we could come together, chat, eat the delicious offerings and then watch a short video.
Food great, communication fine, maintenance too as there was a feeling of shared approaches to how we viewed what we were doing to support “transition”.
The video was named “Our Moment in Time” and can be seen on the Paschimama web site. We discussed in small groups if the viewing had triggered thoughts of any action we as individuals could take to stop, in however small a way, the degradation of the planet.
As with the planting of trees, the apple pressings, the wild food foraging, the Wassailing of the fruit trees and other meetings on energy, banking and more, we were communicating with and maintaining the group of people we call Transition Towns Weymouth and Portland.
Hope to see you at the next “party time”
