Weymouth Energy Advice Centre Expands Activities
Currently Weymouth Energy Advice Centre (WEAC) is seeking more volunteers. John Tomblin writes:
“We open for two half days a week at present, but plan to expand the number of weekly sessions and so reach more people, with our advice on Energy Efficiency (EE) and Renewable Energy (RE). Would you consider joining our small friendly team ? Training will be provided.”

WEAC’s ‘Eco-House’ is in much demand. On Friday 16 October, West Dorset Partnership Launches its Climate Change Strategy Launch 1 – 4 p.m. at United Church, South St, Dorchester. There is a good panel of speakers, including local MP Oliver Letwin and Pete West, Dorset CC Renewable Energy Officer. WEAC is taking the Eco-house as part of the displays.
The advice centre is run by the Weymouth Environmental Action Group (WEAG). On Tues. 3 Nov., the WEAG team is in the regional (SW) final of “Green Streets” (British Gas) at Bristol. Their application is for funding to install solar PV in the library and fit energy efficiency measures to 60 local houses. We are competing with two other finalists and have applied for around £ 60,000. So wish them luck!
Another project that WEAG helps to run is the Ridgeway horticultural project, at Chickerell. Here we are growing food, using organic and some permaculture methods, working with a team from Ridgeway and Southill Day Centres. We meet every Friday, from 11 am to 2.30 pm. and are keen to attract more volunteers. Why not come along to share your gardening skills and /or gain new ones? All you need is an enthusiasm to grow your own veg and we will provide “on the job” training – we all learn from each other by doing the gardening. More details from John, contact details above.
WEAG’s next committee meeting is on Thursday 22nd October, 7.30 pm at 2 Clearmount Cottages, Old Castle Road, Weymouth. Agendas will be available at the meeting. John writes:
I do hope our supporters will be able to come and share in the planning of our activities. Please let me or Mike Martin – tel: 770343 know, if you intend to come, so that we can plan for numbers attending.
