Book: Return of the Black Death
Return of the Black Death.
Wiley, Susan Scott, Christopher Duncan.
The link with Weymouth is that the Black Death launched it’s westward march across Europe into England through the port of Melcombe Regis. This book examines the historical time lines and speed of transmission to make the case that it was not bubonic plague but a filovirus, like ebola. This would fit the rapidity of spread that was faster across the land than a rat could run. Also the spread in winter and in Iceland where rat transmission would have been expected to stop. The dabbling with such viruses in Russia, USA and Porton Down ( Plague Wars ; Tom Marigold, Pan books) means that such events may be repeated.
